Camp Wandawega In Elkhorn, Wisconsin

Seems like every week we’re seeing someone in our social media circles boldly announce “That’s it people! I’m going off the grid!” It’s then usually 18-24 hours before we them see them commenting on the latest Game of Thrones.

If you truly wanna unplug from the world, let us suggest a trip to Camp Wandawega in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Besides being blissfully quiet and serene, the place is also being added to the register of National Historic Places.

Here’s why: It was originally built as a hotel in 1925, then became a speakeasy during the days of prohibition, complete with trapdoors and hidden hatches for the then illegal booze.

After that it was a haven for hookers, before undergoing a total 180 when the Catholic Church bought it. In recent years, owner David Hernandez and his wife have been putting mass amounts of TLC into the property, restoring it all, cabin by cabin.
